Round 16 of Betfred League One got underway on a wet and rainy Sunday, with Workington Town triumphing in the Cumbrian Derby!
Town produced a dominant display away at the Ortus Rec and racked up a total of four tries against their rivals Whitehaven.
Levi Atiga and Andy Djeukessi crossed for the visitors, as did Lennon Clark who completed a derby double, as Workington climbed up to second place.
Despite taking an early lead through a Dan Abram penalty, the only other points Haven could produce came from Ellison Holgate and Abram’s boot in the latter stages.
Town had scored three of their four tries in the first forty, meaning the second half was very closely contested between the two sides.
Dewsbury enjoyed a convincing home win against Swinton – their first against the Lions at the FLAIR Stadium since 2019.
After a tight first half, two late tries from Caelum Jordan and Louie Walker in the second stanza gave the Rams an important two points, as they scramble for a top four finish with five rounds remaining.
Goole Vikings achieved their first ever League One double and made it four wins from four with a well-earned victory against Keighley.
In testing conditions, the Vikings built their way to a 14-6 lead at the break, with tries from Josh Guzdek and Mackenzie Harman, in response to Jack Teanby’s early score for the Cougars.
Further scores from Andy Ellis, Brett Ferres and Tom Halliday sealed the win with a dominant second half display, before Isaac Farrell crossed for a consolation try late on for the visitors.
Elsewhere, Rochdale Hornets ran in 11 tries against Newcastle on Sunday to claim their first win since late May.
